Located in North loop neighborhood of Minneapolis, the Bacherlor Farmer is hard to miss past 5:00pm because of the line of guests out the door. The contrast of the historic brick and timber building against the colorful trendy décor, speaks a very similar language as the menu. The restaurant’s menu changes daily and focuses on the roots of Minnesota and Nordic cuisine, all while experimenting with new fresh flavor arrangements. The Bachelor Farmer, equipped with a rooftop garden overlooking the Minneapolis skyline, also practices whole-animal butchery and the use of traditional techniques to preserve spring and summer produce.
My recent fixation with open faced sandwiches led me to order what the Bachelor Farmer call toasts. My toast held pork pastrami, mizuna, caramelized onions, and grain mustard. The sweetness of the onion, spiciness of the mizuna and mustard, and saltiness of the pork could not have been a more perfect combination. From what the others at my table were saying and what friends had told me before visiting, is that anything to do with duck at the Bachelor Farmer is always brilliant!
The Bachelor Famer has also taken a great focus on the wine they serve. Their wine program focuses on small, independent producers from cool-climate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. I highly suggest asking your server about their recommendations and trying something new!
It is smart to always make a reservation. Show up early and get a drink at the downstairs Marvel Bar while you wait! Marvel Bar actually has some of the best cocktails in the Twin Cities area!
