When visiting Madison my main goal was to really dive into places off the beaten path. Madison having such a “hippy” vibe and reputation for fabulous vegan food, I knew that there would be a possibility I would run into a few hidden gems! One of them being Batch Bakehouse right outside the downtown area in the Marquette neighborhood in what looks like an old warehouse.
Batch Bakehouse specializes sepcifically in croissants & pastries, French baguettes & artisanal loaf breads. Thankfully unlike a lot of bakeries these days, Batch Bakehouse still has pastry chefs that come in before the sun rises every morning to fill their cases with a wide variety of sweet and savory treats! Let me tell you, the smell of fresh baked bread and sweet dough is well worth the early mornings for the bakers.
I was amazed by the selection they offered! Everything from coffee cake to sour dough bread. They also had several vegan options. That morning I had a little bit of a sweet tooth and went with the blueberry coffee cake, that perfectly hit the spot!
I was also really pleased to see that Batch highlighted the farms and companies that their ingredients came from. Everything from coffee to oats. They had an adorable chalk board that also listed all the grocery stores that their products could be found in.
I highly recommend taking a visit to this homey bakery your next visit to Madison. They do tend to run out of products, so early the better for a larger selection!
