There is evidence suggests that spicy fried chicken has been served in Nashville for generations and today it continues to be a never ending debate in Nashville as to which hot chicken restaurant is “the best of the best.” The current dish may have been introduced as early as the 1930’s. It is generally accepted that the originator of hot chicken is Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack, which is a huge reason why many locals still claim it as being best. Recently living in Nashville, I must say my personal choice has to be Hattie B’s Hot Chicken.

Hattie B’s Hot Chicken first opened their doors at the Midtown location in 2012 by the Bishop Family. What really fascinated me was that the Bishop family was really interested in introducing beer with hot chicken.  Not many of the other hot chicken spots served beer or are really focused on the food and beer pairing. Beer being a great pairing with poultry and spicy foods, the Bishop’s were very smart to push this idea!
Since day one and every time I’ve visited Hattie B’s there is a line wrapped around the door no matter what time of day. Normally with restaurants with the big crowds I am satisfied with trying it out once to be able to say I have been, but with Hattie B’s it’s not just a one time stop. Between the spicy juicy meat and incredible side options all washed down with a cold beer,  I constantly crave this fun Nashville spot!

My order consists of the tenders with the hot heat level option, fries, coleslaw, and extra pickles please! Their menu also has the option of dark or light meat and heat levels from no heat at all to their “damn hot.” Their sides consist of Southern Greens, French Fries, Pimento Mac & Cheese, Baked Beans, Red Skin Potato Salad, Homemade Cole Slaw, and the Black Eyed Pea Salad.
Hattie B’s Hot Chicken is a must try your next time in Nashville!
