Located in the Marquette Neighborhood of Madison, Wisconsin, Lazy Janes Café is a must stop for all scone lovers. Their fresh scones are the envy of every other bakery in Madison. Embracing the impact of Madison’s hippie culture, this adorable café makes its home in a corky colorful house. Mismatched mirrors line the stairway and a rolling pin and meat tenderizer replace the door handles.
If you are patient enough to mingle in line on the weekend, you will never be let down by the friendly waitstaff and one of a kind menu options. From a full egg breakfast to a berry scone and cappuccino, Lazy Jane’s menu has a little something for everyone. The vegetarians and vegans even go crazy for this spot!
I had the opportunity to visit Madison last weekend to see a group of old college friends. My vegan friend who loves food just about as much as me, showed me the foodie ways in Madison. Lazy Jane’s being one of her favorite spots, she chose to go indulge in the Tofu Scrambler. This scrambler consisted of curried tofu scrambled with broccoli, red pepper, spinach and scallions. Served with potatoes and toast. Even though I was tempted to dive into a full breakfast, I chose to go a little lighter with a blackberry scone and mint tea. I was not disappointed!
Enjoying a scone always brings me back to school in Ireland. One of my most cherished memories was walking to a cozy café about a half mile down the road, that always tempted me with their lemon poppy seed scones. I never thought I would see the day, but Lazy Jane’s scone very closely competed with my hands down favorite scone in Ireland.
