Driven by their passion of Belgian-Inspired and Barrel Aged beers, Solemn Oath Brewery produces some of the most sought after beers in the Chicago suburbs. You won’t believe how small the Taproom is first walking in, but by the end of your flight, you have made great friends with everyone around! Solemn Oath is unique in the sense of its décor with corky stools made out of used skateboards and barrels used as tables, but it mainly stands out for its feeling of community
Solemn Oath Brewery’s tap list is every changing and guaranteed to never be the same every time you visit. The Brewery’s goal is to move swiftly through dozens and dozens of beers across a range of styles for the first few years to really be able master a wide range of styles. They want to give their drinkers more than just the now standard IPA.
In my visit last week, we enjoyed a flight of four beers, listed lightest to darkest below. Overall the newly launched style, Most Important Beverage of the Day, was my favorite of the samples! The combination of the creamy coffee and citrus notes left you refreshed. The Coffee milk stout exuded the full flavors of a stout, but did not leave the heavy aftertaste. I highly recommend giving it a try!
Butterfly Flashmob- Belgian IPA, bold citrus, tropical fruit, and floral aromatics. Contrast to the light fruity nose, there is a balance of a malt creaminess with an assertive hop finish. (7.2ABV)
Closet Alpha Male- Imperial Red Ale, hop aromatics of pear, citrus, and tropical fruit are balanced by rich caramel malt character with notes of dark fruit and medium body. (8.3ABV)
Heavyweight Ticklefight Champion of the World- Whiskey Barrel Aged Barleywine, American style Barleywine aged 18 months in Jack Daniels whiskey barrels. Provides a complex flavor profile of rich caramel, toasted coconut, oak, bourbon, and vanilla. (12ABV)
Most Important Beverage of the Day- Coffee milk stout with sweet orange peel, rich aroma of roasty chocolate and coffee counterbalanced by citric, orange, and brightness. This is a full bodied beer, creamy mouthfeel with fluffy cocoa along side chocolate and coffee. (7.2 ABV)
