If a place could be made for Instagram, it would be Stan’s. Walking into the door, you are immediately hit the smell of sweet yeast and dark coffee. Your eyes are quickly drawn to the massive case of about forty donut and pastry options. When it comes down to making a decision, the pressure feels like choosing from about a million because there isn’t a wrong choice!
Stan’s Donuts now have four locations and continues to grow in the Chicago area. The first Stan’s Donuts opened its doors because Rich Labriola, the owner of a well-known Chicago baking company, Labriola, famed for his pretzel bread came across Stan’s Donuts in Los Angeles on TV. Rich quickly reached out to Stan about bringing his donuts to Chicago and the two hit it off! Today the partnership brings the classic California-style donut to Chicago with the high end Labriola bakery touch.
I recently visited Stan’s for the first time a few weeks ago with my sister and a group of her college friends. Thankfully I was able to get a taste of a few different flavors! I personally chose to go with the Lemon Pistachio Old Fashioned donut, which I was told was one of the most popular flavors. The green color of the donut was intimating, but the flavor was subtle and almost refreshing in a sense! It was not your overly sweet and double frosted donut with sprinkles, but the new play on flavors with the lemon and pistachio left you wanting more. The other flavors featured in the picture below are the Old Fashioned Glazed donut, Double Chocolate Old Fashioned, and the Toffee Cake Donut.
