You should definitely not judge a book by its cover when it comes to this adaptable space! The Chop Shop & 1st Ward in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago showcases everything from a gourmet butcher shop, restaurant with a seasonal menu, and 6,000 square foot private event space.
I was introduced to the Chop Shop at last months Culinary Fight Club Bacon Showdown, which was held in the 1st Ward private event space. From the set up to take down of our event, I could have not been happier with the venue and the Chop Shop team! This raw industrial space is the perfect blank canvas for any event or show! They also have an amazing roof top area with indoor seating and a full bar. We are absolutely brainstorming several ideas for this rooftop space for the Culinary Fight Club summer events, so stay tuned!
I love this spot mainly for how versatile it is. I’ve personally stopped by for a lunch meeting and have also had late night drinks with a group of friends. The Chop Shop is so much beyond a deli! Their amazing Executive Chef, Emily Chedotte, has been a competitor and judge in several Culinary Fight Club events. The very talented Emily Chedotte works very closely with the Chop
Shop butcher to create a seasonal menu which features affordable prime meats, salads, and small plates. During the lunch hour, I don’t think I looked up from my delicious chicken parmesan sandwich with faultlessly crisp fries. My table also indulged in the hanger steak with chimichurri and roasted garlic aioli. The lunch menu mainly focuses on mouth watering sandwiches and salads and the dinner menu highlights dishes utilizing their beautiful cuts of meat.
Whether it’s to pick up an assortment of local meats and cheeses to prepare at home or stop by for a cocktail and mouth watering entrée, the Chop Shop is a funky change of pace that I highly recommend checking out!
